Additional Uses of the TENS Unit
Back Pain Prior to Labour
In the event you are experiencing back pain, and provided you are over 38 weeks pregnant, you may apply the labour electrodes to your back and turn the amplitude control in the direction of the arrow until you feel a comfortable tingling sensation. Do not press the booster button in this instance. Ensure you keep the labour electrodes clean and lint free and re-apply them to be backing sheet after use. If you are experiencing back pain and are less than 38 weeks pregnant, please ask your Practitioner’s advice prior to applying the FreeMOM.
Induction
In the event you are informed that your labour is to be induced, place the labour electrodes on your back at least 1 hour prior to induction. This gives your body time to build up endorphins.
When your contractions commence they are likely to be rapid and strong. Turn the amplitude control down to a low level, then press the booster button and turn the amplitude control in the direction of the arrow. Set the intensity to a strong but comfortable level. Continue to utilise the FreeMOM from this point in the ‘normal’ way as described in the general labour instructions.
After-birth Pain
Breast feeding stimulates the release of hormones that promote contraction of the uterus. The contractions may be uncomfortable or painful although many mothers are not particularly bothered by the sensation.
If the pain is causing you distress you may use the FreeMOM to help control the discomfort.
Firstly using a Clean-cote wipe clean an area either side of the pubic bone and connect the small after-birth electrodes contained within the kit.
Turn on the unit and turn the amplitude control in the direction of the arrow until you feel a strong comfortable tingling sensation. Do not press the booster button in this instance.
Contraction of the Uterus
If you are having trouble getting to sleep after feeding your baby, you may re-apply the labour electrodes to your back and turn the amplitude control in the direction of the arrow until you feel a comfortable tingling sensation. Do not press the booster button in this instance.
