Instructions for Pain Labour Management

     PREPARATION (at start of labour)

  1. Insert a fresh 9V Alkaline battery (supplied with kit) into the Battery compartment.
  2. Wipe the area on your back where the labour electrodes are to be placed using the Clean Cote wipe supplied.
  3. Place the long labour electrodes 1 finger’s width either side of the spine, starting from the “dimple” and working upwards (as shown). Make sure the cables are at the top.
  4. Ensure stimulator is turned off, then connect the cable to the FreeMOM TENS unit and the electrodes. Either electrode can be connected to the red and black connectors.

    STAGE 1 LABOUR (Contractions)
  5. Switch the FreeMOM TENS unit ON by sliding the amplitude dial in the direction of the arrow until it “clicks”. The green light will now flash.
  6. Push and hold down on the Booster Button with your thumb while you gradually  turn the amplitude control gradually anti-clockwise with the index finger of your other hand.  Once the stimulation has become a strong but comfortable  tingling sensation under the electrodes, release the booster button and the sensation will decrease.
  7. You have now set the FreeMOM’s stimulation intensity. Once your contraction begins, push the Booster Button for the duration of each contraction. Release the Booster Button in-between contractions.
  8. If the contractions become stronger, you can increase the stimulation intensity by holding down the Booster Button and turning the amplitude control further in the direction of the arrow (anti-clockwise) until you feel a comfortable tingling that is stronger than the pain. Repeat this procedure as required right throughout the transition stage of labour.

    STAGE 2 LABOUR (Pushing phase)
  9. Once stage 2 of labour begins, DO NOT PUSH THE BOOSTER BUTTON. Turn the amplitude control slowly anti-clockwise until you again feel a comfortable tingling sensation. Leave the setting at this level as you proceed through the pushing phase. Whenever you are told to relax, the tingling sensation will be felt and the endorphin release, together with the pleasant sensation, will take your mind off your pain.
  10. The FreeMOM unit can be used in conjunction with Nitrous Oxide and/or Pethidine (if required).
  11. Leave the amplitude setting at the comfortable level until the baby is delivered. Should the unit need to be disabled due to it interfering with foetal monitoring, pull the cable out from the base of the stimulator. Reconnect the cable and use as outlined above once the monitoring is complete.
  12. Following labour, switch you FreeMOM unit OFF and return the stimulator and cables to the case. Send the kit back to your distributor (please fill out the feedback form) and your deposit will be refunded.

NOTE: If your labour is induced, you experience after-birth pains or pains associated with contraction of the Uterus, use the unit as outlined in the additional uses section.

"Once I tried it, I didn’t look back! I now don’t think I would have coped without it."
